ABUJA - Bayelsa United head coach Monday Odigie, his assistant Daniel Obiri and Welfare officer Kakain have been suspended from all Nigeria Premier League matches pending when the Disciplinary Committee will meet to take final decision on their matter.
All three officials were indicted by the Match Commissioner’s report for their role in the fracas that ensued after Bayelsa United’s 1-1 draw against Ocean Boys in Oghara last Sunday.
They were alleged to have incited the fans to attack the match officials.
Also suspended from all NPL matches till the Disciplinary Committee meets is Ocean Boys’ Welfare Officer, Eteli, who allegedly went to the dressing room at the interval to attack the match officials.
Bayelsa United skipper Bassey Akpan and his Ocean Boys counterpart Blessing Okardi, are also to stay off till the Committee meets for unsportsmanlike behaviour by exchanging blows on their way to the dressing room at the interval.
Also affected by the suspensions for are a Bayelsa United FC fan called Segun, who is said to have broken into the referees’ room and stole N50,000 but was apprehended and N45,000 recovered from him and the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oghara branch who chased match officials with broken bottles.
The NPL directed Bayelsa United FC to fish out both men and hand them over to the police before the Committee meets.
Also to stay off from the bench and NPL matches till the Committee the meets is Rangers assistant Coach Sylvanus Okpala, for his unsportsmanlike conduct during their league encounter with Lobi Stars.
