I’ll Not Allow Bendel Insurance FC Die - Obaseki

By STEVE OMA-OFOZOR

OGHARA - The Nigerian Premier League (NPL) chairman, Chief Oyuki Obaseki has frowned at a newspaper report saying he would stand against Bendel Insurance gaining promotion to the premier league.

Chief Obaseki who was speaking to the press after week 5 premier league derby clash between Bayelsa United of Yenagoa and Ocean Boys of Brass averred that he cannot destroy a house he built.”

He described the report as baseless, malicious and capable of causing disaffection between him and the management of the club as well as the state.

In this regard, he enjoined journalists to always report their stories with facts and figures rather than sensationalizing them.

“Journalists should not just write to impress people or writing for the fun of it. They must be objective in their reportage.

“I can’t imagine somebody writing that I wouldn’t want Bendel Insurance to gain promotion to the premier league.

“Bendel Insurance is my beloved club and it cannot be allowed to die. It is a club I have laboured for and will always support them,” he enthused.

It would be recalled that the NPL boss recently had a press briefing in his Benin City home to express his position about the Edo State darling club affirming the need for a peaceful resolution on anything that will be inimical to the growth of the club.
