EFCC Boss, Senate In Altercation

ABUJA – Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri and Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Anti-Corruption yesterday, engaged in open disagreement over the agenda of their meeting.


This is even as the EFCC boss asserted that there was no evidence of crimes against former President Olusegun Obasanjo with which to prosecute him and that she could not go out of her way to manufacture one for that purpose.


While Mrs. Waziri saw the attitude of the Senator Sola Akinyede led committee as an ambush, the committee saw their action as normal and in the best interest of the Commission and the nation.


According to the EFFC chairman, she had been invited by the Senate committee for a familiarisation talk only to arrive and be faced with questions concerning the Commission’s financial transactions in 2007.


She argued that she ought to have been adequately acquainted with the purpose of the meeting so as to enable her prepare accordingly, noting that the press had always misquoted her.
