Nigerian Roads, Death Traps -NURTW

LAGOS - Alhaji Gidado Hamman, National President, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), decried the state of roads nationwide, saying they were “death traps”

.
He told newsmen in Lagos that such state had adversely affected the operations of his members across the country.

Hamman called for an aggressive rehabilitation and reconstruction of the roads as many lives were lost daily due to the poor state of the roads, especially during festivals when more people travel.

Hamman advised his members to always consider other road users as well as to ensure that their vehicles were road-worthy.

He said that a meeting of all the governors and the traffic managers would hold in September to sensitise commercial drivers on the new traffic policy.

The union president advised the FRSC to insist on proper eye test before issuing licence to his members.

He also advised commuters to go to designated motor parks to board vehicles to avoid any eventuality.
