ILORIN - The Kwara State Government has debunked the rumour that fertiliser allocated to 16 Local Government Areas were diverted by some of its officials.
Prof. Mohammed Yisa, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in a statement issued in Ilorin, described such rumour as “unfounded”.
The statement quoted Yisa as saying that government had put in place “necessary machinery’’ to check diversion of fertilisers.
It said the distribution of the commodity in the state was smooth and without any hitch and that government had subsidised the price of the commodity by 50 per cent.
“This is in line with the policy of Governor Bukola Saraki to reduce the amount spent by local farmers in procuring the commodity,’’ he said.
The commissioner said in the statement that the governor had approved the distribution of additional 1,000 tonnes of fertilisers to farmers.
It quoted Yisa as reiterating government’s commitment to ensure that farmers benefited from the gesture.
