Akala Advocates Better Welfare For Corpers

IBADAN-Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao Akala of Oyo State has advocated better welfare packages for the Youth corps members serving in the state in order to boost their morale at the places of primary assignments.


The governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Layiwola Olakojo on Tuesday at the official closing ceremony of the Batch ‘B’ corps members Orientation Course at Iseyin was of the view that it was through better welfare packages that the corps members would be inspired to use their God-given talents for the betterment of the state.


Alao-Akala therefore implored the chairmen of various local government councils in the State to put in place adequate security measures, and encouraging welfare packages, he also implored them to provide the required funds for the Corps members to carry out viable projects for the citizenry”.


His words :” I used this opportunity to call on all communities, state and Local Government agencies to take advantage of the abundant talents and skills inherent in these corps members to achieve our social and economic transformation of the state.” Charging the corps members, Otunba a Alao Akala said “ I implore you to exhibit high level of dedication, discipline and diligence to your employers and members of the community”


Also admonishing the corps members in his speech, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Chief Joe Makanjuola Ayoola told the corpers to respect the culture of the land in which there would be serving, saying “respect for elders is the integral part of Yoruba culture.”


The Commissioner who is also the Chairman state Chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) also advised them to strive to exhibit the culture of respect in high esteem in the course of interactions with people of their host communities.


Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Abosede
Aderibigbe commended all the stakeholders including the governor for the various roles played to ensure the successful completion of the orientation course.
