IBADAN-President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was yesterday commended by the South West caucus of the Action Congress [AC] for creating the Niger Delta Ministry.
The party was of the view that it was an attempt at addressing the problems of the region, saying it would be a final solution in the restructure of the country and an adoption of a true and fiscal federalism.
It therefore expressed worry over the seeming declaration of war by the federal government on the Militants in the region, cautioning the federal government against attacking and killing innocent citizens or making them to suffer.
The advice was contained in a communique issued and signed at the end of a meeting the group had in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital by its Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Afolabi and made available to The NIGERIAN OBSERVER.
The meeting therefore called on the federal government “to have a dialoque with the leaders in the Niger Delta region to bring about lasting peace”.
Security situation in the country worried by the worsening party caucus called on President Umaru Yar’ Adua to immediately set up a commission of enquiry to unravel the assassination seven years ago of the late Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation , Chief Bola Ige [SAN].
The call was a re-echo of what the President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) made last week regarding the murders carried out during the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the series of unresolved murders and assassinations should be revisited.
It would be recalled that Chief Ige was murdered right inside his bedroom at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on December 23, 2001 by yet-to-be identified gun-men . All those prosecuted in connection with his murder were subsequently set free.
