Port Harcourt - The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Paul Dike, yesterday expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta area.
Dike expressed the satisfaction when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State yesterday in Port Harcourt.
He said that he was in the state to assess the performance of the task force in keeping peace in the region.
The defence chief, however, conceded that some areas in the task force’s operations still needed to be improved upon.
He commended the government for providing a conducive environment for the JTF to operate.
Responding, Amaechi, congratulated Dike on his recent appointment, saying that his elevation demonstrated the confidence which President Musa Yar’Adua reposed in him.
He said that JTF commanders had briefed him on the security situation in the state, noting that there was a remarkable improvement in the situation.
“The JTF, in their recent performance, has shown that those perpetrating crisis in the state are criminals masquerading as freedom fighters,’’ he said.
The Chief of Defence Staff was accompanied on the tour by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Abdulraman Dambazau and other top military brass.
