ABUJA-As usual, the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation are keeping sealed lips over the fate of the Golden Eaglets and the team’s officials that crashed out of the African Championship last Sunday.
The Eaglets, Nigeria’s Under-17 side lost 3-2 on aggregate to Benin’s Squirrels thus confirming they will not defend their Africa Under-17 trophy they won last year.
Chairman of the Technical Committee of the NFF, Taiwo Ogunjobi told KickOffNigeria.com in Abuja on Wednesday that his committee have concluded sitting on the issue and have sent their recommendations to the leadership of the NFF.
“Well what I can tell you is that we have concluded our deliberations on the matter and we have already submitted our report to the President of the NFF who in turn would make final pronouncement on the matter after meeting with the Board.
“But personally speaking it wasn’t palatable news for us to crash out of the African Championship just like that. It is very painful but we thank God that we still have another opportunity to play in the same U-17 World Cup as host.
“It could have been disastrous not playing in the World Cup as a defending champion,” Ogunjobi told KickOffNigeria.com.
Ogunjobi, however promised that everything would be done to ensure that Nigeria perform well in the world championship as host nation.
“We will surely do everything humanly possible to make this team a strong force that would strive to retain the World Cup,” he summed up.
