Murder of 34-yr-old man NNPC mega station remains shut

By MIKE OSAROGIAGBON

BENIN CITY - Business activities is yet to resume at the NNPC Mega Station along Sapele Road, Ogbelaka, Benin City five days after the brutal killing of a 34-year-old man at the petrol station.

As at yesterday evening, the possibility of reopening the station next week was not in sight as Senior Management staff of the station were said to have gone into hiding while those in town had mobile policemen attached to them 24-hours apparently to avoid attack.

When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the station yesterday, heavily armed mobile policemen were the only moving objects visible at the station, while Edo State Fire Service vehicle was strategically parked for fear of possible backlash just as abandoned heaps of jerry-cans littered the kerosine section of the station.

The architectural design of the station is now visible as the daily madness at the station occasioned by desperate petroleum buyers, disappeared.

Meanwhile, the image Maker of the State Police Command, ASP Peter Ogboi has called for calm as the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Command had commenced investigation into the shooting to death of the young man.

However, passers-by around the NNPC Mega Station have decried alleged arrest by men of the State Police Command, calling on concerned authorities to prevail on the police to stop the arrest which they alleged were taking place at about 7pm daily since the incident occurred.
