ABUJA- The Police Command in FCT has arrested a foreign national, who arranged his kidnap in the territory, demanded and received five million naira from his employer.
The Commissioner of Police in FCT, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, who disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday, said that the suspect was kidnapped on February 10 in the self-arranged deal.
Inalegwu, however, said that the suspect was arrested in Enugu State on February 12 when he visited one of the first generation banks to collect the ransom.
He said that N10 million was demanded as ransom by kidnappers in the self-arranged deal but that five million naira was paid as bait.
“The victim’s account number with the bank was sent to his boss for payment of the N10 million, five million naira was paid into the said account.
“The victim appeared at Okpara branch of the bank, Enugu State with two others after the ransom was paid as bait to make withdrawal.
“He was promptly arrested and he confessed that it was a ploy to get money from his boss,’’ the commissioner said.
Inalegwu said N100, 000, one laptop, International Passport, a Lyadai salon car and some cell phones were recovered from the suspect, adding that he would soon be charged to court.
The commissioner also said that in the last three weeks, the command arrested over 30 other suspects in connection with various crime, recovered 20 stolen vehicles and nine locally-made pistols.
