Felix Anyansi-Agwu, the Chairman of two-time African champions, Enyimba FC of Aba, on Monday, said the club was on course to winning its third CAF Champions League title.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Anyansi was the Chairman of the People’s Elephants when the club won the competition in 2003 and 2004.
He told NAN that he was confident that 2015 would be the year the club would win the prestigious competition for a third time.
He said “even though I have always tried to remain modest in my expectations, I believe it is not impossible for Enyimba to lift the trophy again.
“I have always tried not to be too boastful about our ambitions, but we must always remain positive and look to a better future.
“The CAF Champions League is a big competition; therefore, it is difficult to win because you need to get almost everything correct from the onset.
“As former champions, we are not oblivious of this and that is why we have been working hard to ensure that we get a better outing this year.
“It was not very good for us last year, and we want to correct that.’’
The chairman said getting out of the competition’s preliminary round was a good start to their campaign, adding that the next major step was to reach the group stages.
“We must first get to the group stages before anything, but I believe we can win it this time, but we must remain focused,” he said.
Enyimba FC on Sunday qualified for the first round of the CAF Champions League after having earned a 1-0 win over Buffles du Borgu of Benin Republic in Cotonou and a 4-0 aggregate victory.
The People’s Elephant have earlier trounced Buffles 3-0 in the first leg preliminary round encounter, played at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, a forthnight ago.
