YOLA – The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has commended Michika and Madagali Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for their peaceful conduct in the March 28 and April 11 general elections.
Jega made the commendation on the occasion of presentation of certificates of return to successful candidates of various political parties in the last elections held in Yola.
He said that the commission would not forget the IDPs’ role during the elections.
“I congratulate the people of Adamawa for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves.
“Not forgetting the people of Madagali and Michika who turned in large numbers to vote in the IDP designated voting centres.
“We wish you well and pray that your daily lives will soon return to normal.”
Represented by Dr Nuru Yakubu, National Commissioner in charge of Adamawa, Jega assured Nigerians that INEC will continue to conduct credible and transparent elections.
He pointed out that the present leadership of the commission was committed to the rule of law and would sustain the reforms of the electoral process.
“We have now reached a level where we can say your votes have not only been counted but that they have also counted.”
He assured that the commission would not lower the existing standard of service delivery.
Responding, the Adamawa Governor-elect, Sen. Jibrilla Bindow, thanked the people of the state for the confidence they reposed in him and others by voting them into power.
Bindow also commended INEC for conducting credible and transparent elections.
Other recipients of the certificates of return were three senators and eight members of House of Representatives.
