BENIN CITY –The annual Junior Red Cross training camp which was opened on April 15 came to an end over the weekend in Benin City.
The training camp which had activities such as First Aid Proper, Art and Crafts, Red Cross value, humanitarian principles and what they stand for, games, sanitation, talent hunt, etc was done at Ighile Group of Schools Compound Ekemwan Road, Benin City.
Speaking, the Benin Branch  Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross, Mr. Moses Obazee (JP) urged the children to put into practice the skills learnt in the course of the training programme so as to be better persons in the community they live. He said they should always up hold the Red Cross values and humanitarian principles they were taught. Mr. Obazee thanked the parents of   the children for allowing them to participate in the training camp.
On his part, the Branch Secretary and CEO, Mr. Dan Eheremwen E. said when the present Branch Executives came on board some years ago, they decided that a yearly JRC camp will be one of their priority. He said to rescue the children from the trap of cultism is catch them Mr. Dan Eheremwen said the purpose of the training camp was to introduce children to Red Cross values and humanitarian principles. He said the camp was also to build the resilence of the children by taking them from their comfort zone to non-comfort zone. He said this will help them to cope with any situation they find themselves. He thanked the parents, the management of Ighile Group of Schools for providing the space, NYSC for providing mattresses, as well as the State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Mobilisation.
Also speaking, the branch Administrative officer, Wilsen Ekhiomogiaz said the children were also introduced to vaccine preventable diseases and simple hygiene. He said 70% of people that wash their hands regularly stayed out of diseases.
The Commissioner for Youth Sports, and Social Mobilization who was represented by the state Director of Youth Mr. Wilfred E.O.E declared the training camp closed. There was a Guard of Hononr which was inspected by the Director of Youth, Sports and Social Mobilization.
