BENIN CITY- The Second Round of the year 2015 National immunization Plus Days (NIPDS) is scheduled to commence on Saturday April 25 and ends on Tuesday April 28, 2015.
Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs) Aihanuwa Eregie who disclosed this yesterday while briefing the press on the programme lined up for the exercise said that the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is expected to inaugurate at the Enogie of Etete palace, Sapele Road, Benin City beginning at 10 am.
The Commissioner added that the activities also coincides with the celebration of year 2015 African Vaccination Week with the theme: “Vaccination-a gift for life”.
According to Dr. Eregie, the National Immunization Plus Day is a strategy designed to ensure that every Child 0-59 month old is given the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), together with other routine Immunization antigens, such as the Measles vaccine, BCG, Yellow Fever vaccine, Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine (PVC) and Pentavalent Vaccine.
She stated that during the exercise, vaccinators will go from house to house, Churches, Mosques, Schools and Markets to vaccinate children, aged 0-59months as all health centres would remain open to give routine antigens to children that are due.
Dr. Eregie disclosed that Edo State has been Polio-free State since March, 2009, saying that the polio free Statue must be sustained during the exercise by reaching every nooks and crannies of every community.
She advised every community leader, Parents and Caregivers to take advantage of the End separate game plan to ensure every child born into the community is immunized emphasizing that Oral Polio Vaccine and other Vaccines are good, safe, not harmful and free.
