BENIN CITY – A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has sentenced two former aides of Chief Lucky Igbinedion, the Governor of Edo State from May 29, 1999 – May, 2007 to various jails terms in a N25 billion money suit, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) instituted against them and four others.
The former aides are Michael Igbinedion, a junior brother to Lucky who bagged six years jail term and Patrick Eboigbodin who bagged 20 years jail term.
The court presided over by Justice A.M. Liman however gave Michael an option of N1 million fine in each of the three charges which attracted two years jail term in which he was found guilty.
Also arraigned in the case with suit No. FHC/B/11C/11 were four companies belonging to them, including Gava Corporation Limited; Romig Nigeria Limited, PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited.
Justice Liman discharged and acquitted three of the companies on all the charges but convicted PML Nigeria Limited on 10 counts.
Liman sentenced PML Nigeria Limited to N1m on each of the counts and ordered its assets forfeited to the Federal Government.
He also ordered the company to be closed down.
Patrick was jailed two years on each of the 10 counts without option of fine.
