THE Defence Headquarters on Friday said another set of 234 women and children were rescued at the Kawuri and Konduga end of Sambisa forest on Thursday.
This information is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade Director of Defence Information.
He said those rescued had been evacuated to screening centres.
‘’This set is in addition to the previous individuals earlier rescued during the ongoing operation in the area.
‘’The assault on the forest is continuing from various fronts,’’ he stated.
He added that current efforts were being concentrated on rescuing civilians held hostage and destroying all terrorists’ camps and facilities in the forest.
Meanwhile, a team from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday arrived Yola, the Adamawa capital, to receive the 293 women and girls rescued by Nigerian soldiers from BokoHaram camps in Sambisa forest.
Recall that the army authorities had on Tuesday confirmed the rescue of the women and girls before the rescue of another 234 on Friday.
Confirming the development in Yola, NEMA Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Sani Datti, said that the military had informed the agency that the victims, with the support of armed personnel , were on their way to Yola.
“Presently. I will not confirm to you where exactly the rescued victims are, but according to the military sources, they are on their way to Yola.
“So we are waiting for their arrival to receive them as the army is set to hand them over to us,” Datti said.
Datti also said that the agency had put all necessary arrangements in place to provide a camp for the victims.
