Lagos – A 27-year-old painter, Jamiu Kamorudeen, was has been arraigned for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old secondary school student.
The accused, a resident of No. 7, Edita St., Alakoro, Ebute-Ero on Lagos Island, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and defilement at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, denied the charges.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the painter committed the offence alongside an accomplice, who is now at large, at 8:00 p.m., on April 26 at Oke Arunde St., Lagos Island.
He said the accused had an unlawful carnal knowledge of the 14-year-old student (names withheld) without her consent.
According to the prosecutor, the victim was sent by her aunt to collect a crate of empty bottles of soft drinks from the accused.
“While on her way, Kamorudeen, who had connived with his accomplice, lured the complainant into a secluded place where they raped her after they had overpowered her.
“Kamorudeen’s accomplice covered their victim’s mouth with a clothe to prevent her from raising an alarm that could have alerted passers-by about their action,” Koti said.
The prosecutor said that the student reported the crime to her aunt immediately after the incident.
Koti said that the victim’s aunt also reported the incident to the police authorities which led to the arrest of the accused.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 137 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
NAN reports that Section 137 states that, “Any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.”
The Magistrate, Mrs Salama Matepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 20, for mention.
