ABUJA – A 27-year-old man, Okechukwu Nweze, has appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a cell phone.
The accused, of Last Gate, Karimo Abuja, was reported at Wuse Zone 3 Police Station by one Adamu Alhassan of OAU Quarters, Abuja.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Ango told the court that the accused stole an iTel handset belonging to the complainant while he was on queue at the NNPC Filling Station, Wuse II, Abuja.
Ango said that the cell phone was valued at N10, 000.
He also said that during police investigation, the said phone was recovered from the accused.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Nweze, however, denied committing the offence.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Binta Dogonyaro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000, with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Dogonyaro adjourned the matter till June 10 for hearing.
In a related development, the police have arraigned a 35-year-old man, Olusegun Olorunnipa in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The accused, a resident of Army Estate, Kurudu, Abuja, was reported at the Maitama Police Station by one Moses Emoefe of no fixed address on April 11.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Ango told the court that the accused induced and deceived the complainant into believing he is a visa agent.
Ango added that the accused allegedly collected N730, 000 from the complainant with the promise of procuring a Malaysian visa for him and eighteen other persons.
According to the prosecutor, the accused dishonestly converted the money into his personal use.
He added that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.
The accused denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
Senior Magistrate Binta Dongoyaro granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
She adjourned the matter till June 10 for hearing.
