WEST Ham United’s Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song is a transfer target for Chelsea and Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.
Song is currently on loan at West Ham and has had an up-and-down season with the Hammers, impressing in the early part of the campaign before his – and the team’s – form fell away.
He remains the property of Barcelona but is reportedly being targeted by the Blues and City because he is classed as a ‘home grown’ player by Premier League rules.
This is because Song joined Arsenal from Bastia when he was just 17 and therefore played three years of football in the UK before his 21st birthday.
Premier League rules limit the number of non-home grown players in each squad, making the 27-year-old Song a perfect candidate to boost either of the top two’s player roster.
His price tag for a transfer from Barcelona is said to be in the region of £6 million.
