POLITICIANS in the country have been advised not to lord it over the people they choose to represent but see themselves as servants of the people.
Maj. Barr. Francis Alimikhena (rtd), Edo North Senatorial District senator-elect gave the advice while speaking with newsmen immediately after he collected his certificate of return in Abuja recently.
Barr. Alimikhena said it was surprising to see some politicians playing God over the people from whom they sought their mandates during electioneering while some only identify with the people when they are seeking for elections or re-election.
The senator-elect blamed the electorate for not holding the politicians accountable by allowing themselves to be deceived by the sugar-coated politicians. He however expressed delight that the people were already getting the political awareness/orientation needed to vote out non performing politicians.
According to him, “now that the politicians know that the people have the power to vote for or against them, they (politicians) will start having change of heart towards better representation of their people”. He said the last elections was a practical example of the peoples’ will to vote as most of the incumbent politicians lost their elections in a bid to come back.
Barr. Alimikhena however promised to give better representation to the people of the senatorial district and to complement the good works of the comrade governor, Adams Oshiomhole who he said has really opened the people’s eyes in governance and touching the lives of the common man on the street.
