LAGOS – A 19-year-old student who allegedly defrauded several individuals by impersonating a former governor of Lagos State, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was arraigned yesterday.
The accused, Emmanuel Eto, is a resident of No.2, Abasomor St., Alegbo Road, PTI in Delta.
He is standing trial before Magistrate Margaret Dan-Oni on a three count-charge of impersonation, conspiracy and cyber fraud at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Prosecutor, Insp.Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused pleaded not guilty when the charge sheet was read to him.
Okoi told the court that the accused between April and May created a Facebook account in the name of former Gov. Tinubu with the aim of defrauding unsuspecting individuals.
He said that Eto impersonated the former governor and lured the public to apply for job opportunities on the page.
“He fraudulently obtained the sum of N26, 850 as processing fees from each of the individuals that subscribed,
“Eto lured the public to believe that he had the powers to get employment for all who subscribed”, Okoi said.
In her ruling, Dan-Oni granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 7 for mention.
