BENIN CITY – Members of the Edo Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) are to be absorbed into the civil service as part of the ongoing administrative reforms by the Adams Oshiomhole administration.
The clarification was offered yesterday by the Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Mr. Louis Odion, on the fate of YES beneficiaries following the announcement that the agency would be phased out by Edo State Government.
According to the Information Commissioner, the state government resolved to fill the many vacancies that currently exist in the state civil service by regularizing the appointments of YES members.
Said Mr. Odion: “Random assessment we carried out indicated that a good number of YES beneficiaries have acquitted themselves creditably on the job. The Comrade Governor is of the view that these YES members should be given the opportunities to be formally integrated into the civil service by simply undergoing the procedure prescribed by the state civil service commission.
Once the process is concluded, the Edo Youth Employment Scheme as presently constituted would lapse.”
YES was conceived by Comrade Oshiomhole in 2008 as an interventionist initiative to address youth unemployment.
