BENIN CITY – Four persons are presently standing trial in a Federal High Court in Benin City on a three count charge of unlawfully tampering with electrical installation, property of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
The persons are Onoguekhian Alexander, 28 years; Akhidue Osamudiamen, 26 years; Awulu Buhari, 30years and Jamilu Falelu, 30years.
According to the charge sheet in suit No.FHC/B/360/2015, the accused  “on or about 16th day of March, 2015 at Igbalo, Irrua Community, Esan Central in Benin Judicial Division of the Federal High Court, Benin City, did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit tampering with electric plant work.”
That the accused “unlawfully disconnect, remove, damage, tamper, meddle with, and interfere with plants work, wires or assembly of wires design or use for transforming or converting electricity, property of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).”
That the accused “on the same date and place, in the aforementioned judicial division, willfully and unlawfully, with intent to destroy, damage electric cable wires and transformer by rendering it non-functional property of Benin Electricity Company (BEDC).
The offences, according to the charge sheet are punishable under Sections 3(6); 1(9) and 1(3) (6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap, M 17 Vol. 9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The trial Judge, Justice M.I. Liman however adjourned the case to October 21, 2015.
