BENIN CITY – The International Federation of Woman Lawyers has held her FIDA EDO WEEK 2015 tagged: “Women Through The Ages (sustainable empowerment)” in Benin City.
Edo State Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu said “education is an important tool for women and children. It’s worrisome the rate women and children who beg are exposed to abuse.”
Speaking at the seminar, the Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice C. Idahosa said “it is an indisputable fact that women have contributed their quota to the development of our society over the years.”
He said gone are the days when it was thought that the role of women is defined only to home making. No wonder governments worldwide are now becoming more and more gender sensitive as women have proved to be worthy companions in societal development.”
Idahosa further commended the effort of FIDA particularly in Edo State for their role in the defence of women and children’s rights especially the girl child. He urged them to sustain the trend, initiate more programmes and appealed to other professions to take the cue and sustain same.
Chairperson Edo FIDA CHAPTER, Mrs. Stella Ojeme said “the essence of the year’s FIDA WEEK is to demand an enabling environment for women and children, and to reach out to the society, educate the public of the rights of women.”
