BENIN CITY-The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, zone 5’ Mr Musa Daura, Commissioner of Police (CP), Edo State Mr Samuel Adegbuyi and his Bayelsa state counterpart Mr Tonye Ebitibituwa may have shunned the home reception of their boss, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr Solomon Arase as the trio were conspicuously absent at the Holy Trinity Grammar School, Sabongida Ora, Owen West Local Government Area, Edo State, venue of the event, last weekend.
Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States make up zone 5’ with its headquarters in Benin City, capital of the IGP ancestral state.
However, Delta state Commissioner of Police Mr Alkali Baba Usman attended the historic event with CP, FCT, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, while the supposedly chief security officers at the ceremony steered clear.
The absence of the police chiefs particularly the AIG and CP, Edo did not go down well with some dignitaries at event.
“Though the IGP, AIG and CPs are not politicians but we are all Nigerians, you see! this strange act questions the esprit de corps and support of the AIG and CPs for the person of the IGP, Solomon Arase.
“We know the event is not official, either the AIG or Edo CP ought to be here to show his love and solidarity.
“Look around! None of their PROs is here, if a retired AIG could be here what stops a serving one. After all, this event is not impromptu.
“My concern is that if they lacked harmony, cordial relationship and mutual understanding, how would then work together?”. A dignitary noted.
Other dignitaries maintained that they received their first shocker from the AIG and Edo COMPOL when a meeting where the IGP was expected to interact with stakeholders was cancelled less than 48 hours to the scheduled time.
The IGP-stakeholders meeting was scheduled at zone 5’ headquarters, Benin City, last Friday.
The deputy commissioner of Police, Edo Police Command Mr Sadiq Bello in a reaction stated that he was at the ceremony to represent the state Commissioner of Police Mr Samuel Adegbuyi.
“All I know is that they are officially on leave, I am representing CP Edo Command while CP Delta the most senior CP in the zone (zone 5) representing the AIG”. DCP Sadiq maintained.
Delta state Commissioner of Police Mr Alkali Baba Usman, COMPOL, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mr.Wilson Inalegwu and DCP, Edo Mr Sadiq Bello in their various remarks described the ceremony as great and an honour well deserved for an illustrious son.
The NIGERIAN OBSERVER crime correspondence observed that operatives of Edo Police Command and Operation Thunderstorm provided water tight security in and around the venue of the event.
Roads leading to Sabongida Ora in Owen West Local Government Area were adequately manned by patrol team from different divisions as no crime was recorded during the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police Mr Solomon Arase has vowed to make crime tolerable in the country.
He stated this shortly after he was conferred with a traditional title “Ojeagbase of Ora kingdom”.
The IGP stated that he has no apology for police action against criminals as the police would continue to deal with them accordingly.
“I have dealt with cultists in Edo and Kogi and I will continue to deal with them. No country can eradicate crime but we can make it tolerable.
“We are going to remove police from politicians. It is an ongoing thing”. IG Arase stated.
Also at the occasion were the Chief Security Officer of Edo State Comrade Adams Oshiomhle, AIG Amen Oyakhire Rtrd., Force Public Relations Officer ACP Emanuel Ojuku, traditional rulers, politicians, captains of industry, among others.
