BENIN CITY- The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Cromwell Idahosa yesterday swore in 32 persons as “Justice of the Peace (JP) in the State.
The recipients who cut across the state were early at the court I hall yesterday with their well-wishers, who could not hide their feelings in appreciating the Governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the opportunity to serve their various communities.
Speaking shortly after administering the oath of allegiance to the recipients, Justice Idahosa who described the exercise as a call to duty, urged them to reciprocate the gesture from the state by ensuring lasting peace in their domain.
He stated that their selection as “Justice of Peace” would go a long way in curbing the social menace within the society, saying to whom much is given much is also expected”.
The Chief Judge therefore urged them to continue to work with the lecture delivered to them by Hon. Justice E.A. Edigin on the areas of duties and responsibilities of a Justice of the Peace in the society.
It would be recalled that the recipients were carefully selected and recommenced by the State Ministry of Justice for the position of Justice of the Peace.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State, Hon. (Barr) Henry Idahagbon, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Justice, Mr. Wole Iyamu amongst others were on hand to witness the ceremony.
Amongst the recipients are, the Managing Director of Time Hospital, Benin City, Dr. Taiwo Amusan, Chairman, Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Enobakhare, Chief Osughe of Benin Kingdom and others.
Highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of “Justice of the Peace” certificates to the recipients and the taking of photographs with the Chief Judge of the State.
