USEN – Graduating Higher National Diploma (HND) students of Edo State Polytechnic, formerly Edo State Institute of Technology and Management, Usen in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State are to be mobilize for the next batch of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This was the out come of the visit of a 12 members NBTE accreditation team to the school last week.
Leader of the team, Elder Augustine Efedika said their visit was a rescue mission of accreditation to enable the students participate in the NYSC scheme in the next batch.
He said similar successful rescues mission has been carried out before, both in the federal polytechnic Auchi, and the Delta State polytechnic, thieve Ogwashi-Uku.
Courses to be accredited in the school included HND programm in Computer Science and Electrical and Electronics.
Elder Efedika further disclosed that last year,12 courses were presented to NBTE and were all accredited.
He commended Edo State Government for its investment in education in the state.
Also speaking the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Barr. Washington Osifo who was represented by Dr. Mrs. Irene Okakua, a Director in the Ministry, said education was one of the main industry in Edo State.
She said that the first phase of accreditation was successful last year, stressing that the Governor Adams Oshiomhole has put in everything possible to enable accreditation of the HND courses.
In an address, the Acting Rector of the Institution, Comrade Patience .O. Edomioya said that last year, the school presented 12 OND programmes for accreditation and the courses were all successful.
The Rector commended the state government for its assistant to the schools accreditation programme, promising that staff, management and students will not disappoint the governor.
Chairman of the Governing Council of the school, Rev. Peter Obadan who was represented by Mr. Fredrick Idemumudia said the State Governor has taken Education as one of its priority programmes.
