BENIN CITY – The Edo State Ministry of Transport has extended the deadline for compliance with the painting of commercial vehicles operating intra-city services to the state approved colours of yellow on fire-red to September 13, 2015.
A statement by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Francisca Iyagan, quotes  the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Saturday Idehen Uwuilekhue as saying that the extension was informed by the plea from the leadership of Road Transport Union for an extension to enable commercial drivers comply with the State Government directives,
The Hon. Commissioner stressed that unpainted commercial vehicles are on the increase even as   they were constituting serious security threat in the state.
He urged all commercial drivers and cab operators to ensure their vehicles are painted to the state approved colours of yellow on fire-red before the extension date terminates in order to avoid their vehicles being impounded as defaulters would face possible prosecution.
According to him, routes codes which would restrict commercial drivers on where to park would be assigned.
The policy on colour code and route code, he said, would bring sanity to the state, thereby reducing the rate of crime and criminality.
