BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole has been commended for the upgrading of the College of Education, Ekiadolor to a University status, Tayo Akpata University of Education Ekiadolor  – Benin, Edo State.
In a joint statement signed by the President of the Alumni Association, College of Education, Ekiadolor, Barrister Robinson Imade and the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Festus, Alenkhe said   the move will further boost teacher education in the country.  The statement said the institution was first established in 1979 as an Advance Teachers, College and was on the 5th of May, 1980 upgraded to a College of Education by then Governor of Bendel State, Late Prof. Ambrose Alli.  The college is now a University of  Education as pronounced by the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in March, 2014.
The statement however lauded the Transition Committee headed by Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor on the profile of the state of affairs of the institution for effective take off of the university.
The statement further appealed to the state Governor to consider the report and noted that the efforts of the Governor in transforming the educational landscape of Edo State will have his name written in Gold.
