A special intervention team of the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command says it has nabbed five suspected hoodlums who confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Prof. Paul A. Erie of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
In a release by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwochei says the special intervention team set up by the Commissioner has successfully arrested five out of the eight suspects.
Those arrested suspects include, Awulu Samson, A.K.A Saseki, Lucky Owuadegbe, Jeremiah Amayo, Chucks Edobor and Stephen Usiajwu, all males.
The statement added that investigation and interrogation of the suspects yielded positive results as one of the suspects confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Prof. Paul A. Erie.
“He volunteered and led police pathologists, forensic experts, detectives, family members and the press to a bush at Igbanke village on the 1st of October, 2015 where a shallow grave was identified and successful exhumation of the suspected remains of Prof. Paul A. Erie was carried out”.
Police statement further maintained that items recovered from the grave and the scene are consistent and suggested that the remains are indeed that of Prof. Paul A. Erie as identified by family members.
While expressing his heart felt condolences to the family of the erudite professor and the authorities of Ambrose Alli University, CP Chris O. Ezike assured that the police would leave no stone unturned until the other three suspects at large are arrested and brought to book.
