Activities to mark Nigeria’s 55th Independence anniversary organised by Edo State Government was rounded off on Thursday evening with a dinner held at the banquet hall of the Government House, Benin city.
At the dinner, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole expressed happiness at the anniversary especially as Nigeria is still a stable and united country contrary to the prediction that it would break.
He also emphasized that Nigeria now has a President with an acceptable personal integrity and pedigree, whose emergence only few months ago, has prompted the renewed confidence of the armed forces in the fight against the terror group Boko Haram and improvement in electric power supply.
While stressing that Edo   State is working, Governor Oshiomhole enjoined Nigerians to have faith in the country.
Welcoming dignitaries to the event, the Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who thanked God for Nigeria, noted that with collective resolve and commitment Nigerians were carrying on beyond all challenges.
While the former Secretary to Edo State Government, Dr Simon Imuekemhe proposed a toast to Edo State, Chief Arogundade proposed a toast to Nigeria just as the former Head of Service and current Chairman of Edo State Civil Service Commission, Princess (Mrs) Ekiuwa Inneh proposed a toast to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Highpoint of the ceremony, which featured musical entertainment by Edo State Arts and Culture troupe and Eno Louis band, was the cutting of Nigeria’s 55th Independence anniversary cake by Governor Oshiomhole, Deputy Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Bright Osayande, who represented the Speaker and the Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon Justice Cromwell Idahosa.
