Abuja – The Credentials Committee for the 2015 Elections of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, has declared Mr Paul Ella of the African Leadership Magazine as chairman elect.
The chairman of the committee, Mr Akin Olumalade of the NewsWatch Times, declared Ella as winner on Saturday at the end of the keenly contested election in Abuja.
Olumalade said Ella polled 196 votes to defeat the immediate past chairman and secretary, Mr Chuks Ehirim and Emmanuel Ogbeche respectively.
Announcing the results, he said Ehirim polled 131 votes, while Ogbeche polled 153 votes.
He said Mr Primus Khanoba of the Aso Radio emerged as vice chairman with 190 votes to defeat Emmanuel Iriogbo of the NewsWatch Time and Osisam Ede of the Press Gallery Newspaper, who polled 157 and 130 votes respectively.
Olumalade said Miss Blessing Adewole of the Daily Independent, emerged Treasurer with 264 votes to defeat Miss Catherine Agbo of the Leadership newspaper, who polled 204 votes.
The chairman said that Mrs Rafat Salami of the Voice of Nigeria and Mrs Dorcas Jonah of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) were returned unopposed as Secretary and Financial secretary respectively.
NAN reports that the candidates elect were sworn in and given certificates of return.
