BENIN CITY- AHEAD of the 2016 governorship election in Edo state, a nascent sociopolitical group, Esan Political Consultative Forum in Edo State has said that it would only support a governorship aspirant that would advance the well being of the Esan people politically, culturally and socially.
Protem President of the group, Mr. Thomas Itua told journalists recently in Benin at an interactive session, that the group which is non partisan, adding that it was committed to the sustenance of the Esan people in the Nigerian democratic space.
“The Nigerian democratic space has assumed a dramatic dimension which entails vibrant political cohesion among a people as a means to socio-economic development. Development practitioners have increasingly emphasized the role that social and political structures play in shaping a people’s development.
“The most potent method to achieve such vibrant political cohesion is the presence of a socio-cultural organization derived from the culture, wishes and aspirations of the people
“Esan Political Consultative Forum seeks to be the avenue for that important political cohesion for the Esan people. It was formed by some politically committed Esan indigenes in conjunction with Esans in the Diaspora who believe in democracy, cultural heritage and unity as important tools for the political and economic development”.
“Esan land is too small to be divided among party lines hence we must come together and advance the cause of our people politically, culturally and socially”
He stated that the group has undertaken to among other things to stimulate political participation, organize political education, enhance public policy analysis, build political leaders, promote a home grown democratic culture, and promote economic reform for the attraction of development and economic empowerment in Esan land.
He therefore called on Esan sons and daughters across the globe to identify with the Forum which he said was the only medium that could unite the people politically, culturally and socially.
