BENIN CITY – The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror in Benin yesterday said the House would verify the authenticity of the Certificate of return presented to the House by Mr. Sylvanus   Eruaga of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
It was widely reported in other media that the court of appeal had in December nullified the election of Hon. Yakubu Gowon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Etsako West II and   declared Mr. Sylvanus Eruaga of the PDP winner of the April 11 2015 House of Assembly election.
The speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror while reacting to allegations that the House has deliberately refused to swear-in Mr. Eruaga of the PDP said the house has begun the verification of the certificate of return presented by the PDP candidate to the House.
“I want to state unequivocally that the Edo House of Assembly Operates separately from the government house”.
“I have never spoken with the governor on this issue. I am not that kind of person that will take that kind of advise from anybody or the Governor”.
“We had information that the certificate Eruaga of the PDP presented to the House was fake, as soon as we verify the authenticity of the certificate, and we find it to be authentic, we will swear him in”.
“Etsako West must be represented in the assembly. I advise him to be calm while we conclude all process required by law,” Hon. Edoror said.
According to him, some notable PDP chieftain have also called me on the issue and I have told them that we needed to verify the certificate of return he presented.
