BENIN CITY-The Edo State Government has commended the police for reducing crime to its barest minimum in the state.

The State Government also pledged to pay the sum of N1.5m each to families of two policemen killed during the recent Igarra bank robbery in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State.

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, represented by the state Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Kassim Afegbua stated this at the 2016 Police Officers Get-to-together Party in Benin City, last weekend.

He hails the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, for leading operatives of the police command in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

“I must acknowledge that the police have really impressed Edo.

“Encourage them by providing useful information. I commend the CP for his innovation and creativity”. The Governor stated.

He remarked that the CP, Mr Chris Ezike has dealt ruthlessly with cultism, armed robbery just as he has made the state uncomfortable for criminals.

“The CP has done well, he has made the IG proud, the CP deserves a standing ovation”. The gov. rep remarked.

He disclosed that the N1.5m earlier promised families of two policemen killed at the Igarra bank attack would be redeemed when the Governor returns home.

“I assured you that the promise of N1.5m will be redeemed when the Comrade Governor returns”. He stated.

Earlier, the convener of the event, CP Chris Ezike assured members of the public that the police would remain committed to their security.

He stated that operatives of the command have been working tirelessly to ensure that the Edo Communities sleep with their eyes closed.

CP Ezike sued for more community partnership in the war against crime and criminality.

He explained that the essence of the event is to recognise, encourage, honour and reward officers who have excelled in their various offices.

Various awards were given to some policemen, businessmen, media and medical practioners.

Festus Alenkhe of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) and Victor Eriyo of the Independent Television (ITV), Benin were journalists honoured at the event.

Amongst the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Edo State Chief Judge Justice Cromwell Idahosa, Commander, 4 brigade, Nigeria Army Brig-Gen Farouk Yahaya, DIG Parry Osayande (rtd), AIG Zone  5’ Mr Musa Daura and the Obasogie of Benin kingdom Chief Edowu Ekhator.
