BENIN CITY- Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu has urges the Catholic community in the state to rededicate themselves to God as they begin the Lenten season.
The deputy governor stated this on behalf of Governor Adams Oshiomhole at an early morning mass in Government House Chapel, Benin City to mark the Ash Wednesday.
Dr. Odubu encouraged Catholics to rededicate themselves to God by penance and abstinence, while urging them to be more prayerful and use the opportunity to give alms to the needy.
The Chaplain, Government House Chapel, Rev. father Andrew Obinyan urged the congregation not to be occupied with their day-to-day activity at the expense of their spiritual life.
While emphasizing the reality of man’s mortality, the clergy said Ash, Wednesday symbolizes hope for Christians, penance and forgiveness.
The State Head of Service, Mrs. Gladys Idahor and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Ugbodaga said the Lenten period is a call for Christians to effect a positive change in their lives and be true to their faith in God.
