Pankshin (Plateau)  – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sudnday rejected the result of the by-election of Pankshin South Constituency of Plateau.

Mr Raymond Dabo, State PDP Chairman, told newsmen in Panksin that the by-election was a “sham’’ and “unacceptable to PDP’’.

“The results of the entire by-election held in Pankshin was not acceptable to us in PDP expecially that of Pyabor polling unit in Chip electoral ward of Pankshin Southn Constituency.

“Could you imagine that we the party officials, including the candidate were not allowed access to the polling unit while voting was taking place?; this is strange, ’’ he lamented.

Dabo said “this kind of action is not healthy for democracy but very very dangerous. ’’

According to him, the party will soon convene a meeting to take a decision on what to do to challenge the result of Pankshin South.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal in Jos had in its judgment on April 11, ordered INEC to conduct fresh elections in Nyelleng and Pyabor polling units to determine the winners.

Pharm Gideon Dashe of APC had scored 9, 985 votes against 9, 875 votes scored by Mr Istifanus Mwansat of PDP in the keenly contested election.

The by-election at Pyabor was held amidst tight security with little skirmishes when the result was to be announced by INEC officials.

It took the combined team of security operatives to control party loyalists, who disagreed on where the result should be announced.

The Returning Officer for Pankshin South, Dr Chris Vande of University of Jos declared the result at Longkat in Chip Electoral Ward.
