BENIN CITY-A native doctor and two others have been arrested over the gruesome murder of a 75-year-old woman Mrs Bessy Egbeobamwonyi in Benin City, a fortnight ago.

The acting Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Stephen Onwochei confirmed the arrest while giving update on police investigation into sad incident.

The native doctor, 51, a 70-year-old man and a middle-aged (names withheld) were arrested following intelligence reports.

The police acting spokesman however appealed to the deceased immediate family and members of the public to come fort with useful information that could lead to unmasking the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

It will be recalled that assailants reportedly stabbed Mrs Bessy Egbeobamwonyi severally, slit her throat and laid her corpse beside her sleeping four-year-old grandson after they broke into her apartment at night in Benin City.

Family sources hinted that the victim four-year-old grandson was sleeping beside her on the same bed when the assailants struck.

It could not be ascertained at press time whether the four-year-old child was drugged by the killers of her grandmother as he reportedly slept throughout the night.

An adult who was also in another room in the house that fateful night was also said to be unaware of the deadly operation as they woke up the following morning to discover her corpse.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Oseye Street, Off Okunwague Street, Off Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City.
