BENIN CITY – In an attempt to strengthen its operations and boost customer service delivery to tax payers in the state, the Edo State Internal Revenue Service has officially opened an additional drivers licence data capturing centre in Benin City.

Declaring the centre opened, domiciled at the former Ethiope Publishing House, Acting Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, (EIRS) Emmanuel Usoh Esq., stated that the new centre is a one-stop-shop for the registration, issuance and renewal of drivers licence and vehicle particulars.

Usoh informed that activities at the centre had commenced earlier in the year but there was need for the public to be aware so as to decongest other centres.

On the issue of the fees payable on application, the EIRS boss explained that the cost of a 3years drivers licence is six thousand three hundred and fifty naira (N6,350) which is made after obtaining learner’s permit and going through the driving school accredited by the Federal Road Safety Corp(FRSC).

Still speaking, the EIRS Acting boss said “upon the presentation of the necessary application requirements, the biometrics and photographs of the applicant will be  captured and a temporary drivers licence with sixty (60) days validity period, is issued on the spot”.

While presenting a temporary drivers licence to Atayero Ogunyele, an applicant at the new centre, Usoh stated that application for drivers licence is neither done by proxy nor passport photographs but by the applicant who needs it.

He strongly advised applicants against patronizing middle men and touts, rather they should  visit any of the five (5) drivers licence centres in the state located at the EIRS Corporate Headquarters, Kings Square, Forestry Road, Ekpoma and Auchi.

He assured that with the support of the FRSC, more data capturing centres would be opened in other parts of Edo State.

Unit Head of Drivers licence operation unit at the centre, Ngozi Nwuoha said “all materials needed for the capturing of applicant’s biometrics and issuance of the drivers licence have been provided”.

In company of the Acting Executive Chairman were Hon. Barr John Obazee, Executive Director, Tax Operations, Prince Felix Isuku, Executive Director, Tax Compliance and other top management staff of the agency.
