BENIN CITY – That there was a vehicular stand still at First East Circular road, Igbesanmwan street and environs is an understatement. That there was intimidating turn out of people is to be economical with the truth as the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State Flagged-off its Edo South Governorship campaign where the party’s candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki declared that he will run an open, effective, efficient government.
At the campaign rally yesterday in Benin City, APC standard-bearer said despite the current economic recession, he would focus on the people just as he expressed optimism of a bright future, adding that Edo State would be great.
“We want to focus on the people. We want to make sure the people come first and the economic is strong,” adding “ For me the most important thing for me to do is to go into government to serve the peoeple.”
Noting that the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole had built a of infrastructure all parts of the state, he disclosed that he will create over 200,000 jobs, provide technical training for youths and give priority to women empowerment , pointing out that the youths went to school or not they could still have a job.
Mr. Obaseki concluded that he and his running-mate, Hon. Philip Shaibu, with their wives, would not disappoint the people.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who expressed his happiness at the large toun-out of people at the campaign rally , explained to the them that he rose from a humble employment to what he is today hence he lifted embargo on employment through which teachers, doctors and nurses were employed as well as thousands of youths were also engaged for public works through the Edo Youths Employment Scheme
He said this was contrary to the disengagement of Permanent Secretaries and workers from public service by the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party during their tenure in government.
While encouraging the people to compare the candidates vying for the governorship position in the state, he canvassed vote for the APC candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr Pius Egberanmwen Odubu assured the people that the APC was one big family and told the people that they must not return to “Egypt” that they left before the advent of APC government in the state.
In his remarks, the running-mate to Edo State APC governorship standard-bearer, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu affirmed that they would continue from where Governor Oshiomhole stopped and consolidate on it.
He observed that the PDP does not know what governance meant but that the APC knows it.
While stressing that Governor Oshiomhole had built social amenities in parts of Edo State, Hon. Shaibu said they would build more roads, schools and other infrastructure and even extend them to areas that had not benefited.
The Edo State APC Chairman, Hon. Anselm Ojezua Esq. later presented the party’ candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his running-mate,Hon. Philip Shaibu to the people.
