BENIN CITY – Less than three weeks to the Edo State Governorship election, Ovia North East Local Government Area Community Associations have endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial Candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for governor.
The President of the association, Osasere Osayogie and the Vice President, Etinosa Ighogaro made the declaration Wednesday in Benin City saying, “We will deliver Ovia North East for APC come September 10, 2016.”
Receiving the youths, who turned out in their thousands, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said, “On assumption of office I discovered almost the land of the land in Ovia North East has been allocated to only one man. I revoked the land illegally allocated to only one family and I returned it to the people of Ovia. I revoked it. I stand by it and ti remained revoked and given to the people.”
According to the governor, “The purpose of government is to protect the interest of the people and I believe you must defend that and ensure that no one man takes your land.”
Explaining that Edo State had changed the infrastructure built, he also said, “We will hand over to a man who understands what it means to protect public interest. With government everything is possible.”
On the victory of APC at the governorship election, the Governor exclaimed, “When I see the large turn-out of the community leaders outside and here, if you convince 10 persons, it is finished. In searching for Godwin Obaseki, the party was very clear that we need a person with brain.”
With reference the opposition, he spoke further, “When they come to campaign in Ovia, you must ask them ‘where is the dual-carriage way from the junction of the Benin-Sagamu express way to Okada.’“
Making a comic on the name of Ovia North East, he said, “ What we are doing is to turn it from Ovia not eat to Ovia now eat.”
He recalled that the effort of the state government to bring electricity to the community in Ovia was hampered when some people organised youths to stop the truck carrying electric poles to the community that is to be provided with electricity.”
“You now have minimum words maximum strength. You now have minimum words maximum votes. If anybody breached the law, they will be prosecuted and sentenced to prison.”
“We respect authority but we will not tolerate rascality. Everybody is equal before the law,” he said.
Thanking the Ovia people for their consistent support the governor assured them of political protection from any intimidation.
Also speaking the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki said, “ I want thank you for the very bold step you have taken to endorse me as the sole candidate for the governorship position. By the special grace of God I will become the next governor.”
Reiterating that Governor Oshiomhole had rescued Edo State from underdevelopment by building infrastructure, he said, “ If God had not blessed us with the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as Governor, we would have achieved all these stressing that there would be continuity in the building of more infrastructure.
Mr. Obaseki assured them that he would attract agro-based industries for large-scale mechanized farming in their locality.
While urging them to vote for APC, the party’s standard-bearer promised to continue the good work of developing the state.
While the President of the Ovia North East Community Association, Osasere Osayogie declared that the council area would be delivered for APC, the Vice President, Etinosa Ighodaro, who echoed the same assurance, also affirmed with a standing ovation, “ We the youths of Ovia North East endorse Godwin Obaseki for governor. We have done it before. We will do it again. We are here today to rejoice with Godwin Obaseki.”
“Come September 10, 2016, Godwin Obaseki will be elected the next governor, ” the Vice President concluded.
