ABUJA – Senate of the Federal Republic is to compile and adopt recommendations from its two-day debate on the State of Nigeria economy for onward transmission to President Mohammadu Buhari.

    Making the announcement yesterday, Senate President Bukola Saraki constituted 6-man ad-hoc Senate Committee under the chairmanship of Sen. Abdulahi Yahaya, to summarise various recommendations from the debate for further necessary legislative action.

    Other members of the committee which had three days to submit its report are, Senators Barau Jibrin, Ben Bruce, John Enoh, Rafiu Ibrahim and Hassan Mohammed.

   The Senate President however commended the senators for what he described as patience and maturity they demonstrated throughout the debate period.

    All things being equal, the compilation would be presented for conversion into resolutions of the Senate, for onward tansmission to President Buhari.

    Meanwhile, fear factor has been identified as a major obstacle to capable citizens’ enlistment in Nigeria’s quest for economic recovery.

    Making his point yesterday at resumed debate on the state of the country’s economy, Sen. Ben Bruce (Bayelsa East) noted that the body language of President Mohammadu has scared men and women of means from participating in the economic development.

    He also noted that President Buhari’s approach to anti-corruption in the country was counter productive, and suggested a change of tactics.

    Sen. Bruce further canvassed coming together of the federal ministries of agriculture and transport and intervened in movement of goods and services on behalf of poor Nigerians.

    On their parts, Senators Shola Adeyeye (Osun C) and Sunny Ugbuoji (Ebonyi S) chorussed restructuring of the country as a veritable solution to the recession problem.

    “Restructuring does not mean disintegration, but just to help every state to tap their potentials and this will help Nigeria too”, Ugbuoji stressed.
