BENIN CITY – The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has assured the Students Union Government (SUGs) in all the tertiary institutions in  Edo State and the National Association of Edo State Students (NAESS) of evolving policy that will make their academic qualification meaningful to them.

He gave the assurance at a meeting he held with the leadership of the different students’ bodies Saturday in Benin City.

He said, “For me I believe that the reason why I’m in this race is basically and principally is because of you because I’m not in the race because I want to make more money or make more fame. No. It is because I believe you cannot call yourself a successful person if the community, the society you come from is not successful. So for me, the meaning of your success must translate to the success of your community. So that’s the purpose.”

Mr. Obaseki explained further, “ I’m saying can you not see the dangers ahead of you, ahead all of us, if we do not take certain fundamental actions today. We are in a race against time. Our population doubles every 30 years and infrastructure is not growing at 10 percent in that period. So we are having a crisis and for me, if anybody, any group should be able to understand, articulate and create a response, it has to be you.”

According to him, “So, the models we inherited, the models we are used to are no longer working for us. We need to create new models, new models of leadership and new models of driving policy and that is what I am hoping I can engage you with tonight.”
