BENIN CITY-The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has hailed the Nigeria Police Force for their commitment towards promoting peace and the safety of lives and property across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Comrade Oshiomhole gave the commendation during the pull-out-parade of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, ‎Isaac Chinonyerem Eke at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, yesterday.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, described Eke as an officer who had diligence selflessness throughout his stay in the state.

He stated further that the retired police AIG’s display of respect for constituted authority and the general commitment to building the institution of the police would always be remembered.

Oshiomhole said, “I think for us, for a long time to come, we will continue to remember him as one officer who came here, left lasting legacies that others will continue to build upon.

“With the discipline of the police force, with the senses of vision that he possesses, with the intellectual depth, I have no doubt that he will continue to provide leadership wherever he so finds himself at any point in time.”

Also present at the ceremony were the commissioners of police for Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States which are under zone 5, as well as representatives of other sister agencies.

In his farewell address, the retired AIG expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police for finding him worthy to serve the country for 32 years.

Eke advised serving officers to put in their best and eschew acts capable of bringing the force and their respective families to disrepute.

“Success in the police is always is always borne out of the foundational key values of a Spartan lifestyle, self-contentment, discipline, belief in God and dedication to duty,” he stated.

He further emphasised the need for motivation, retraining and logistics for police personnel to enable them perform optimally.

“The issue of personnel training, motivation and logistics in the force needs urgent attention to enable officers and men of the force to put in their best, as the consensus the world over suggests. The Nigeria Police Force is adjudged one of the best police establishments on the planet. 

“The Nigeria Police Force, as a global player, needs the support of us all as the Nigerian police contingents on peacekeeping and other global engagements have always been hailed and bathed with encomium by the international community as ranking among the best in the universe.”

It will be recalled that AIG Isaac Eke (rtd) was one-time the Benin Area Commander, another period, unrepentant men of the underworld saw hell in the hands of the Nigeria Police Force.
