Gov Osunbor Bares His Mind On Pertinent National, State Issues

NIGERIA is 48 years old today as a sovereign independent nation.
To commemorate this Independence Anniversary, a team of senior Editors from The OBSERVER Newspapers stable which included Messrs Monday Aigbe (Editor, Daily), Austin Allens (Editor, Weekend), Osazua Ivbaze (Editor, Sunday) and led by the Acting General Manager of the Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL), Mr. Dennis Omoregie had a chat with the Executive Governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor at Government House, Benin City last Monday.

This question cannot be properly answered without knowing what independence is. According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, Independence means ‘to be independent’. Nigeria @ 48: Not Yet An El-dorado

At 48 today Nigeria is still trapped in the web of poverty and under development. She is still saddled with acute socio-economic problems despite the countless promises by her leaders to ameliorate her sickening conditions. Yet Nigeria’s economy which is supposed to be engine room that would naturally galvanise her development is comparatively in the doldrums.

ORDINARILY, many Nigerians will not see any need to celebrate today. The reason is obvious. At 48, Nigeria is yet to find her feet and take her rightful place in the comity of nations.
