LONDON –The UEFA Champions League match Day 3 gets underway today as Manchester United play Celtic of Scotland in Group E at the Old Trafford Stadium in England.
When Manchester United and Celtic FC faced met in the 2006/2007 group stage, each team recorded a victory – United winning 3-2 at Old Trafford while Celtic also won 1-0 in Glasgow. And recent history makes the Sir Alex Ferguson’s side the favourites to prevail once again on home soil.
Despite the fact that Manchester United had a draw with Spanish side, Villarreal at Old Trafford in Group E opening fixture, they have gone 16 games undefeated at home in the competition while Celtic have not won a single one of their 18 away games in the UEFA Champions League.
Unfortunately for Celtic, they have had a sad sequence of results as they have suffered their nineth successive away defeat in the competition. They were beaten 1-0 by Villarreal on Matchday 2.
As a result, football pundits have given today’s match to the Red Devils who may not spare their visitors. Manchester United are at the top of the table with four points after winning Aab FC of Denmark 3-0. Should they defeat Celtic, they would be strongly placed to progress to the last 16.
