ABUJA -Dr.Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu, the Minister of Education, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the entrance interview into the country’s 102 Unity Schools.
The exercise was a follow-up to National Common Entrance Examination released last week by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
“I must say that the situation has been very nice, the candidates have conducted themselves in a most orderly manner.
“I must also commend the personnel conducting the interview for an excellent job, the programme no doubt was a great success,”
Aja-Nwachukwu said shortly after inspecting some centres in the FCT.
He told newsmen that the interview session was aimed at ensuring that only the best candidates were admitted into the schools.
“You are aware that the candidates had sat and passed the National Common Entrance Examination before getting to this stage.
“The essence is to ensure that only the best candidates will eventually be given admission into the schools,” Aja-Nwachukwu said.
Reports say that the minister visited the Federal Government College (FGC) Kwali, the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Bwari and the FGC Apo .
In each of the centres visited Aja-Nwachukwu interacted with the candidates and sought their opinion on the exercise which also included a written examination.
At the FGC Kwali, the minister expressed dissatisfaction with the level of decay at the school.
“I am not happy with the general decay in the school’s structure,” he said.
But the principal, Mr. Samuel Familokun, said he inherited the school the way it was.
“We have written several letters to the ministry without response,” he said.
The minister made similar comments at the FGC Apo and FGGC Bwari where he blamed the schools management for the poor environment.
