A lady was in a relationship with some
man for years, and their plan was to
go down the alter together. But that wasn’t to be, because the guy’s mother wouldn’t allow it. She vehemently refused to give her consent, and eventually, the relationship came to an end.
Ironically, some years later, her younger son started dating the young lady’s cousin. By this time, the lady in question was already happily married to someone else. Every one thought the relationship wasn’t going to work due to past interferences from the guy’s mother when her elder son was about marrying from that same family. Actually, the woman tried all she could, but her son refused to let go, and so today, there are plans on the way for the two lovebirds to be wedded.
A man from Edo north, whose name we would call Roland, decided to move to Lagos state, after struggling for so long without some semblance of relief or change in the right direction. When he got to Lagos, thing started improving, and in no time he experienced an upward move in every facet of his life.
He decided to get married, when he met a loving and understanding woman, Angela. This man, Roland, knew the Angela’s family, but she didn’t know any member of his family, besides his friends. She wasn’t comfortable with the arrangement, but Roland told her it was for the best.
They started their married life in a quiet manner by going to the registry after getting the Angela’s parent’s consent. They had the first child, the second, and then the third. Roland still refused to take his wife home to see his family. So, Angela became worried, and was pestering him to take her to his family, but he always told her things were better the way they were, and that going home might result to a chain of events she may no be able handle.
He told her he knew his people, and that he was sure they were better of not going home so his family wouldn’t know how life had improved for him. She insisted, saying that how could she be sure she wasn’t married to a ghost. The man finally gave in, and took his wife and children home to meet his mother and siblings.
Getting to her husband’s home town, she discovered that her husband had only one brother left out of four, and he was right there in the village, doing nothing, but just living with their mother. He had no wife or children, and had never been married. The other two brothers had died mysteriously a few years before her husband, Roland, left for Lagos. Meanwhile, they had five sisters, who were all married with children. Her mother- in-law was not happy to see her, neither were her sisters in-law.
They kept on saying “eh en, so you married, and you now have children?” On the other hand, her husband’s brother looked frustrated, and didn’t seem to be in the scheme of things at all. This was a man who was close to forty years. The sisters and their mother were in charge. By the second day, it became obvious to Angela that her husband’s mother and sisters neither expected nor wanted him to get married. They wanted him to remain with their mother like the other brother. It was also clear that the men in that family do not go far, neither do they get married, talk less of having children. It was a complete break from the norm for her husband.
They went back to Lagos on the third day, rather than spending the one week they budgeted.
Immediately they got back to Lagos, things became rough. Then her husband became ill, and he died barely six months after they came back from his home town. Angela blamed herself for everything.
She kept wishing they had never gone to see Roland’s family. She now understood why her husband never wanted to go home. His mother and sisters were in control of that family. They were in some kind of evil click, to make sure the men do not amount to anything. Her husband sensed all these things, hence he ran far away from them in order to find his place in life. It was deeper than he could ever explain. The only good thing was that he married and had three children before he died.
Strange things happen. Some women say they don’t want their sons to marry this girl or that girl because she is from this tribe or that tribe. If you look closely, you may discover that these may just be cover ups, for a much more evil motive. Some women do not want their sons to get married at all, because they feel that would give them complete and unquestionable access to their sons all the days of their lives. Such is selfish, and most of all, evil.
