As much as we recognize the disaster caused on the dwellers in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria from petroleum exploration, we also agree that there has been many years of neglect to control these hazards as a result of the unsettled atmosphere, especially in the government . But now that aspect has been taken care of as we all have combined to achieve the need for a civilian government.
We have a lot of work to do. Oil is in the Niger Delta zone just the same way coal is abundant in the eastern region of Nigeria. The Western zone had been our agricultural base for cash crops and arable crops while the northern region had been the base for our meat and milk consumption. Even the Nigerian Southern region dwellers are supported by the food produced in the eastern, western, middle belt and northern regions of Nigeria. The Southern region dwellers also contribute to the fishing industry which still need to be improved in Nigeria for domestic consumption and for exports so that we do not talk of oil alone.
The Nigerian Beverage, industry and in other countries outside Nigeria needs cocoa and such must be improved for the western settlers. The dwellers in the northern Nigeria are suffering so much from desert encroachment and the practice of the Moslem religion in Northern Nigeria has led to disadvantages especially on the younger generations of the northern dwellers..
Many observers of international and global concern for humanity can see a degrading care, especially for the blinds and afflicted and beggars of the northern region of Nigeria, Recently, it was aired globally the impact of food crisis in Northern Nigeria. As the gates open at a feeding flock into the compound of a wealthy donor, the owner of the house, a Senator in the National Assembly, gives out two meals everyday for help.
Many of the people who wait for the handouts are local beggars from Kano. They bring their children and grand-children who each receive a plastic bag of cooked rice to eat.
Hauwwa, 80 years of age has been begging for the last two decades. Senator Bello Maitama yusuf gives 15 sacks of rice a day to people at his home.
For years, Nigeria had paid over the odds for imported rice as there are only a handful of licensed import rice and the local production of rice in Nigeria has been neglected, such as Ekpoma Rice and the Igbirra produce.
Nigerians are turning back to other domestic grains like guinea corn and maize as price of imported rice is up, taking this staple crop out of the reach of many people. The last year’s poor rains and a locust infestation badly damaged harvest in the north and subsistence farming families across the north are having to resort to other measures. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture must boost the Green Revolution and the Operation Feed the Nation programme.
The new government and Nigerian people have a lot of work to do from now to the next twelve, twenty, thirty years ahead before everything could come to normal.
Fifteen years – old Mohammed arrived in Kano two weeks ago from his village in neighbouring Jigawa state. “We have no food at home,. And I was sent here to bring back money for my family,” he said. The food situation is much worse than last year. He says that he also hope to be able to attend a Koranic school and learn a trade. Mohammed’s home village of Dan Innua, near the town of Kazaure, North of Kano is 3 km from the tarmac road. It is an area where the desert is gradually encroaching. They do menial jobs to eat. Most of them are really between hope and despair.
One of the main way to get money is to sell firewood to middlemen who is turn sell it to people as far as Kano. “We have to scrap together what we have for a bag of food”, says Yakubu. Most children are often sent away fro home so there are not so many mouths to feed. This is happening in Nigeria, a number eight oil producing country in the world. We need the intervention of the Knowledge of the ways of the Almighty God, Peace, happiness, love for one another. Shelter Belts of young saplings planted by the government against desertification are being chopped down for firewood. Deforestation is the reason the Sahara Desert is spreading south, gradually consuming village.
Nigerians, lets get together and be alright.
The European woman between the ages of 45 and 55 year and above can write and read, and I like that aspect of basic education, Nigerians can do the same. The European countries do a lot to help their citizens.
The European countries organise themselves into social democratic and popular oraganisations. Different institutions function. They initiate laws, social laws and economy laws are binding and the security rules are binding. Nigerians must embrace the new social order planned to bring about development so that we can live like other advanced nations. This we can achieve with the added assistance of the united Nations
Nigeria is our fatherland no matter the region where we were born.
Anyone born in Nigeria is a Nigerian and those who claim Nigeria Nationality. This is the season of change to make Nigeria great. Nigeria is number eight oil producing country in the world. Let Nigerians benefit from oil wealth. Both foreign companies operating in Nigeria and the Nigerian Government must initiate urgent reform programme, so that Nigeria can look like the European union nations and the western and United states and Great Britain and Asian Japansene and Chinese and Australian and the united Arab Emirates as partners with the United Nations Treaty .
Accordingly, Nigeria has the advantage to meet up with the United Nations index rating. Urgent reform programmes are needed now in Nigeria.
The UNITY OF AFRICANS and especially of Nigeria is of urgent importance now for so many reasons and paramount is to primarily form a formidable front for the future of the our people and our children.
